Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV

Mercedes-Maybach EQS Concept is an Ultra-Luxurious Electric SUV

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS concept is an all-electric SUV drenched in grandeur, luxury, and opulence, able to travel up to 373 miles on a single charge.

After establishing a basic electrified portfolio, automakers have turned their attention to stepping up their luxury game. Audi came up with the grandsphere concept at the IAA auto show in Munich, a “private jet on the road” as the manufacturer calls it, shortly followed by Mercedes’ reply, the Maybach EQS concept. The ultra-rich are getting spoilt, I’d say.

The recent trend in the industry has been to provide an experience to the passengers, rather than just a simple means of commute. Cars are no longer just cars—nobody cares about going from point A to point B anymore. Cars have evolved into a completely new dimension, ruled by luxury and comfort. And since Maybach is no stranger to luxury, the new EQS concept just raised the bar to a whole new level.

Like the EQS and EQE, the Maybach EQS concept SUV will underpin Mercedes’ Electric Vehicular Architecture 2 (EVA 2), the company’s dedicated platform for executive-class electric vehicles. The SUV offers an all-electric driving range of 373 miles according to the lenient WLTP cycle, competitive with other similar electric SUVs, apart from Tesla’s Model X. Although, on second thought, that model isn’t exactly comparable to the Maybach EQS in terms of luxury either.

Unfortunately, Maybach still hasn’t released any official information regarding the drivetrain yet. However, the AMG EQS’s unit producing 649 HP and 700 lb-ft might find its way into the premium SUV. On the other hand, we won’t have to wait for the official specs for long since Mercedes claims the concept is pretty much production-ready and could hit the market as soon as next year.

The EQS exterior design screams Mercedes-Maybach—the dual-tone Obsidian Black Metallic and Zircon Red Metallic paint job simply can’t be overlooked. Generously endowed with chrome elements and high-gloss black, the SUV displays quite an aerodynamic design, smooth lines, and a continuous transition. Of course, the famed three-pointed star stands proudly at the front, right above the massive grille, gracing the SUV with Mercedes’ long tradition of luxury and performance.

Still, as with all upcoming luxury concepts, the true beauty is hidden inside the ultra-posh cabin. The seats are wrapped in white leather, further accented by rose-gold highlights and blue ambient lighting. Meanwhile, a faux fur carpet pampers you as you sip on your favorite drink, chilled to perfection thanks to the dedicated cooler.

Furthermore, the steering wheel is flat on the top and bottom, but fortunately, isn’t a Tesla yoke. And behind the controls, you’d find Mercedes’ fabled MBUX 56-inch Hyperscreen, encompassing a 17.7-inch central infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display panel, and a 12.3 passenger touchscreen display unit, all merged in one continuous glass panel—talk about the perfect blend of luxury and futuristic tech.

So what do you think? As far as the Maybach tag goes, let us know in the comment whether the EQS concept lives up to the moniker or not.
