2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe Arrives With a Normal Grille and Retro Lines

BMW has officially introduced the 2022 2 Series Coupe with a sleek design, more capable engines, and enhanced handling and performance.

The second-generation BMW 230i and M240i xDrive were scheduled to debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but the Bavarian company already released all the specs, so we don’t have to wait any longer. Let’s dive straight into it.

Over the front, BMW has used three-dimensional textures, triangular patterns, and diagonal edges to provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The front bumper has been lowered, whereas the more traditional kidney grilles have vertically aligned air flaps that can be electrically controlled for more airflow to the engine. Also, there are single LED headlights, unlike any modern BMW car, along with U-shaped daytime running lights and integrated turn signals, a nod to classic BMW 2002s.

A striking shoulder line starts at the headlights and goes down the flanks to join the tail lamps. The front and rear wheel arches are also more prominent, similar to the older BMW 1 Series M Coupe. At the back, there is a short trunk with a beautifully combined spoiler. Moving a little downwards, the BMW 230i Coupe sports circular exhaust tips while the BMW M240i xDrive Coupe has trapezoid-shaped ones.

The 230i Coupe comes with a TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter 4-cylinder generating 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It can sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in 5.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 130 mph or 155 mph, depending on the configuration.

On the other hand, the M240i xDrive extracts 382 ponies and 369 lb-ft of torque from a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine. BMW offers it as an all-wheel-drive configuration that can reach 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. The top speed remains the same as the 230i, though.

Unfortunately, the 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe brings some sad news for stick-shift lovers as BMW chose to go with an eight-speed automatic transmission only. However, a Sprint function is offered as a part of the optional Shadowline Package in the BMW 230i Coupe for rapid bursts of speed while cruising. Once activated, it enables the transmission to shifts to the lowest available gear once the driver pulls the left shift paddle for one second.

The 230i is equipped with 18-inch light-alloy wheels and all-season run-flat tires as standard. In addition, 19-inch alloy wheels are standard on the M240i xDrive and offered as optional on the 230i.

Worth mentioning, the M240i xDrive has a moonroof 20 percent larger than the previous generation, but the standard 230i misses out. Both variants of the 2022 2 Series Coupe incorporate a 5.1-inch instrument display and an 8.8-inch touch display at the center of the dash with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support as standard. If you think that’s small, the BMW Live Cockpit Professional package adds a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a larger 10.25-inch center screen.

Various driver assistance technologies have also been introduced to deliver the safest driving experience possible, including Lane Departure Warning, Frontal Collision Warning, Dynamic Cruise Control, and Active Blind Spot Detection.

The 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe is scheduled to land on American shores starting November. Interested buyers will have to shell out $37,345 for the 230i and $49,545 for the M240 xDrive, including $995 destination fees.
