Kimera EVO37 Lancia 037 Rally Coupe Restomod

Kimera EVO37 is an Attractive Lancia 037 Rally Coupe Restomod

Kimera pays tribute to the iconic Lancia 037 Rally Coupe with its gorgeous-looking EVO37 restomod, packing the original 2.1-liter engine, but now tuned to 505 hp.

The original Lancia 037 was a star of its time. From 1982 to 1986, it brought the Lancia Martini factory team six World Rally Championship victories. Furthermore, the Italian team even went on to win one championship title with the Lancia 037 on the track.

Lancia specifically designed the coupe for the Group B rally. Before it was banned, Group B rallies featured some of the fastest, most powerful, and sophisticated rally cars ever built. The Lancia 037 belonged to the golden era of racing, featuring a sturdy built and rear-wheel drive to take on the very best at WRC. It was the prettiest of the bunch too.

The rally car was based on the Lancia Beta Monte Carlo coupe. It had the Monte Carlo’s central part with double wishbones welded on the front and the rear. Meanwhile, the spatial frame was built by connecting the stretchers. The Lancia 037 also shed a lot of weight, keeping only the bare minimum; there was also a spoiler at the rear to maximize downforce.

Kimera Automobili, an Italian car startup, did an incredible job of reviving this all-time classic. Its brand new Kimera EVO37 is the spitting image of the original 80’s legendary coupe. Luca Betti, the founder of Kimera Automobili, a successful sports manager, and a rally driver, is the man behind this project.

The Italian brand put together a team of veteran designers and engineers to develop the original 80’s Lancia. Claudio Lombardi, Sergio Limone, and Vittorio Roberti are the real brains behind the Evo 37 restomod. Limone is in charge of the chassis, while Lombardi is responsible for the engine design. Meanwhile, Roberti is the man responsible for the construction of the prototype.

Under the hood, the EVO37 boasts the original 2.1-liter mil; however, Kimera completely redesigned the engine, and instead of s supercharger, it employed a turbocharger. As a result, the EVO37 engine produces 505 hp and 406 pound-feet of torque.

Moreover, its curb weight of 1000 kg gives it an excellent power to weight ratio, thanks to a carbon-fiber body. The restomod also features a completely redesigned suspension and braking system.

From a design standpoint, the EVO37 blends the external features of the 80’s Lancia with modern-day technology. For instance, the Evo comes with similar round headlights but uses modern LED optics. Apart from that, it also derives the angular front end and the hefty spoiler at the rear to complete the restomod.

The Kimera EV037 starts at €480,000 ($585,000), which doesn’t seem like much for such a special car. Kimera will build only 37 of these beauties.
