Honda finally revealed its upgraded HR-V hybrid crossover, keeping the model in-line with current global trends!
After unveiling the all-new HR-V last month, Honda showcased just what its upcoming hybrid crossover is all about. The Japanese automaker shared a series of pictures along with a couple of videos providing insight into the final look of the revamped HR-V. The European new-gen HR-V e:HEV and the Japan-spec Vezel received a much-needed eye-catching makeover. This third-generation Honda HR-V will now also come with a hybrid powertrain standard on all trim levels.
First up, the most apparent change is the huge grille making its debut on the refreshed crossover. Interestingly, larger grilles seem to be the new norm, as we’re seeing such a concept being adopted by multiple carmakers lately. The bumper looks better and is accompanied by some major design changes to headlamps and taillights. For instance, the taillights have been turned into an integrated unit, as taillights are joined by an LED strip spanning across the car’s width. The tailgate handle, taillights, and the reversing camera have also been grouped together and placed over the newly-positioned license plate slot. Amongst one of the low-key changes is the black plastic cladding on the lower half which is now more noticeable compared to the previous model.
“We designed the all-new hybrid HR-V to reflect the exacting values and needs of modern consumers and appeal to a new generation of car owners. They demand purpose and innovation from the products they interact with. By cleverly applying Honda’s latest technologies and design ethos, we have created a car that will provide the spaciousness, connectivity, reliability and versatility required to fully support and enhance their everyday lives,” said Kojiro Okabe, Honda’s Large Project Leader.
Unfortunately, performance and engine specs have been held back so far, with the official release expected in the coming weeks. However, confirmed bits include the Euro-spec HR-V e:HEV having a two-motor petrol hybrid powertrain with the Japan-exclusive Vezel packing a 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine. The aforementioned hybrid HR-V will be different for the North American market and will be launched under the 2022 model year.
Honda claims that, even though the size of the all-new HR-V hasn’t changed much, the SUV still manages to provide improved comfort and more overall space. Some of the credit for that goes to the new center-mounted fuel tank layout. Now, if reports are to be believed, the upcoming HR-V will also provide better legroom and shoulder space.
The reclining rear seats can also be folded to provide a large storage space big enough to fit a bicycle which is a huge bonus for adventurous owners. The interior isn’t the main attraction here but still manages to provide a soothing premium feel.
All-in-all, Honda’s upcoming crossover looks good, but we’ll reserve our comments until the automaker reveals the more crucial details.
