According to the Environmental Protection Agency’s website, the 2021 Nissan Rogue is rumored to feature a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo engine.
Although Nissan hasn’t unveiled official specs yet, the EPA’s website displays ratings for the 2021 Rogue with a 1.5-liter turbo engine, improving the fuel efficiency by 2 to 4 mpg when compared to the present 2.5-liter inline-four.
According to Josh Clifton, Nissan spokesperson, “We regularly evaluate potential future technologies that can be used on our existing models. We are planning a new “pilot program” with a new powertrain, utilizing the 2021 Nissan Rogue. This is all we have to say right now.”
As per the website, the new three-cylinder turbo engine would be offered through the whole 2021 Nissan Rogue lineup, including the top-of-the-line Platinum trim. All trims would feature an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and customers would be allowed to choose between front or all-wheel drive. The website also shows that the base 1.5-liter Rogue with front-wheel drive would have an efficiency of 30 mpg in the city, 37 mpg on the highway, and 33 mpg combined. On the other hand, the all-wheel-drive variant offers 30 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway, and 33 mpg combined.
However, the numbers are a bit different for the more expensive SL and Platinum trims. The front-wheel-drive offers an efficiency of 30/36/32 mpg, whereas the all-wheel-drive is even thirstier at 29/35/32 mpg.
The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine currently offered as standard on the Nissan Rogue produces 181 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, and the power is delivered via a CVT gearbox. The front-wheel-drive variant has a combined efficiency of 30 mpg, whereas the all-wheel-drive offers 28 mpg. It also comes equipped with three displays: a 12-inch customizable digital dashboard cluster, a head-up display showing you relevant information without taking eyes off the road, and a touchscreen infotainment system. It also arrives with the Nissan Safety Shield 360 with 10 airbags and four parking cameras as standard.
In 2020, the Rogue was Nissan’s best-performing vehicle in the US, and the company delivered more than 225,000 such models, which may explain why Nissan wants to make the Rogue even better than it already is.
