The 2022 Honda Grom has a slightly more powerful, Euro-5 compliant, 124 cc engine, along with some cosmetic upgrades.
The Honda Grom is one of the most exciting and fun-to-ride minibikes in the brand’s motorcycle lineup. Since its launch in 2014, many riders have loved this minimoto, with more than 750,000 units sold around the world. Now, the Grom has received a significant makeover for 2021 to keep its popularity among minibike lovers alive. Honda gave it several upgrades, including a fresh design, customizable body, and a reworked powertrain.
To start with, the new 2022 Grom features a refreshed exterior with straighter lines and a sleek appearance. The main highlight is the detachable and swappable body panels, which you can easily remove by unscrewing six large bolts.
Further, riders can mix and match between four available color schemes: Matte Black Metallic, Queen Bee Yellow, Pearl White, and Candy Blue. There’s also an optional Pearl White SP paint scheme that adds a handful of visual enhancements, including unique graphics, yellow shock spring, and gold finish for brake calipers, front forks, and wheels. Moreover, the redesigned LCD dashboard now comes with a gear indicator, and the step-up seat of the previous generation Grom has been replaced by a flatter singer-piece seat for better comfort.
There have been no suspension upgrades on 2022 Grom. It features the same suspension setup with 31mm telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear end. Meanwhile, a 220mm disc at the front and a 190mm disc at the rear handle braking duties. An optional ABS is also available for 2021.
However, Honda has significantly reworked the engine. The 124cc two-valve air-cooled single-cylinder unit now produces 9.64hp and 10.5Nm (7.7lb-ft) of torque thanks to the increased compression ratio. As a result, Grom’s top speed is 95 km/h (8 km/h higher), and the bike is also Euro-5 compliant.
Furthermore, the engine is paired to a new 5-speed gearbox that provides improved rideability and fuel efficiency. Finally, the fuel capacity is also up from 1.45 gallons (6.6-litres) to 1.59 gallons (7.23-litres).
One thing that fortunately hasn’t changed is the pricing – the 2022 Grom still costs $3,399, with the optional ABS costing an additional $200. It will be available at dealerships from May 2021.
