Ferrari 488 GT Modificata

Ferrari 488 GT Modificata is a Supercar Built from Endurance Racing

Its twin-turbo V8 engine produces nothing less than 700 horsepower.

Following the release of rival Italian supercar maker Lamborghini’s Huracan STO, Ferrari has unveiled the 488 GT Modificata, a limited-edition track-focused supercar. This beast from Maranello features equipment borrowed from the race-spec 488 GT3 and the 488 GTE endurance racecars based on the 488 GTB, Ferrari’s first turbocharged mid-engined car since the iconic F40.

The Modificata does not comply with the FIA racing conditions, allowing Ferrari to go all out with the 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8. This powertrain makes around 700 horsepower and produces more torque than the GT3 and GTE cars. Fortunately, to handle the increase in power, the Modificata has a gearbox with revised gear ratios and a carbon-fiber clutch.

Like the GTE, the entire body, except for the aluminum hood and wheel uprights, is made from carbon fiber, shaving some serious weight. Moreover, Ferrari designers have ensured that the Modificata’s aerodynamics delivers most of the downforce to fall at the front without increasing drag. This results in the car experiencing a downforce of more than 2200 pounds at 143 mph, giving excellent grip and a sense of control at high speeds.

The suspension setup is also borrowed from the GTE race car, and the ABS system comes from the GT3 Evo 2020, but both features have been calibrated to handle the output of the Modificata. Other pieces of racing equipment include a V-Box acquisition system, Bosch’s telemetry acquisition system, a high-resolution rear-view camera, a passenger sports seat, and a Temperature and Pressure Monitoring System. However, customers have an extensive list of options to customize the exterior and the interior.

That being said, this 488 is not street-legal and can run only on track days and compete in Ferrari’s Competizioni GT or Club Competizioni GT. Also, in typical Ferrari fashion, in addition to the Modificata’s ultra-limited production, the car will only be offered only to drivers who have competed in the events mentioned above.
