Another massive recall for Toyota…
This series started in January 2020 when Toyota recalled 696,000 vehicles produced between 2018 and 2019. Subsequently, in March 2020, an additional 1.83 million vehicles were scheduled for recall, dating back to the 2013 model year. This recall was issued for Toyota as well as Lexus vehicles. And if it wasn’t enough, an additional 1.5 million vehicles were recalled last Wednesday because of a faulty fuel pump. As of now, the recall covers 42 different models from the Toyota family.
According to this recall, faulty fuel pumps can result in sudden stalls occurring due to incorrect fuel flow to the engine. This condition will trigger the check engine warning lights on the driver’s dashboard.
The main problem here is that a stalled engine will usually result in a lack of power brake and steering assistance. In such a case, the driver could have a hard time applying the brake and swerve from left to right, placing the owner in a vulnerable and hazardous situation, especially if it happens while on the highway.
The solution proposed by Toyota is a free replacement fuel pump, changed at no extra cost. Owners whose vehicles are subject to this recall will be notified by Toyota starting in December.
