BMW’s newest touring motorcycle is capable of comfortable, safe, and fun long rides.
BMW Motorrad revealed the fully-revised R 1250 RT, its first motorcycle equipped with a Radar Cruise Control and only the second bike to be equipped with such technology after the Ducati Multistrada V4.
With all the upgrades the Bavarian company made, it’s safe to say that the R 1250 RT is a totally new bike, featuring an even more elegant look and including everything a biker could dream of.

The R 1250 RT features the same ShiftCam boxer engine as the previous model, producing 136 hp at 7,750 rpm and 143 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm. That’s more than enough oomph for a cruiser.
But all the hype around BMW’s new R 1250 RT is the result of the new Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) system, which now comes standard on all trims. The DCC system ensures that the bike stays at a constant speed, even when riding downhill. Furthermore, it automatically applies brakes and returns to the pre-selected speed. There is also an option for Active Cruise Control (ACC), which helps the rider maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead.
Besides, the 2021 R 1250 RT also features Dynamic Traction Control (DTC). With this driver-assisting technology, the bike will be safer on slippery wet roads – no more unintentional wheel spins.
BMW also offers an “Eco” mode for those who want to save fuel in exchange for weaker throttle response. Riders who only care about having fun have the option of Pro Riding Modes and MSR. These systems mitigate rear-wheel spin during deceleration or downshifting, helping with stability.
Another impressive feature is the optional “Adaptive turning light” headlights, bending the light beam according to the banking position, helping the rider see into corners a little sooner. Moreover, BMW also reduced the height of the fairing’s upper section to widen the rider’s field of view.
And if all this was not enough, BMW’s new R 1250 RT now comes with new Full Integral ABS Pro as standard.
The new R 1250 RT also features a 10.25-inch color display, with Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, “Comfort telephony with extended smartphone connection,” and “Audio system 2.0” available as an option. There is even a weatherproof and ventilated drawer for smartphones, including a USB port and a Qi wireless charging pad.
The R 1250 RT is available in three specified variants — Elegance, Sport, and Option 719. Unfortunately, BMW Motorrad hasn’t revealed anything regarding pricing and availability yet.
More details to come soon.
