R1200C

The BMW R1200C was a cruising motorcycle that was produced from 1997 until 2004. Over the course of the 7 years of production, BMW manufactured almost 41,000 of these motorcycles. These motorcycles were among some of the most popular that came from BMW. Today, while the R1200C is no longer in production, it can still be found all over the world – predominantly in North American and European markets. BMW enthusiasts, including owners and technicians still refer to a BMW R1200C service manual in order to perform routine maintenance.

There was only one model that BMW released of the R1200C but it underwent some minor changes throughout the course of its production. The cruiser-classified motorcycle was equipped with a 1,110 cc two-cylinder boxer engine. It’s horsepower hit 61 at 3,000 rpm which was impressive for the time period. With a lighter engine and overall weight, it provided a less bouncy ride, hence the cruiser classification.

The BMW R1200C was so popular that it appeared in movies. It’s first debut was for a promotional placement in a James Bond movie. And, the model ended up being one of four BMW motorcycles that were featured in a motorcycle exhibit in New York City during 1998. Other James Bond movies also featured the BMW R1200C.

The cruiser R1200C was mostly noted for its impressive design. While the engine was pretty powerful, it is important to remember that it was a cruiser – so, a killer engine was not the top priority. The passenger seat on the R1200C could fold up to become a backrest for the driver which provided additional support and comfort. The fold up backrest design had three adjustable angles which made riding smooth and nice for each rider.

BMW has a reputation for creating rebranded or upgraded models of their motorcycles and this too, is true with the R1200C. BMW chose to create a few special models of the R1200C which included the following – The Classic, Avantgarde, Independent, Montauk, Troika, R1200CL and the R1200CLC which were both very similar versions of the original BMW R1200C.

Currently, BMW produces many different motorcycles but the R1200C was discontinued in 2004. However, owners and technicians still perform maintenance on these bikes. With the help of a BMW R1200C repair manual, any necessary work can be appropriately performed. These manuals help to keep R1200C motorcycles in great condition so that they last a lifetime.
