The BMW R1100S was first introduced in 1998 and ceased in 2005. It was widely popular among consumers due to the sporty design and powerful engine. The engine of the R1100S is a 1085 cc eight valve, fuel injected set up with a flat twin air-cooled cylinders with an oil-cooled head. The power behind the R1100S speaks for itself. It puts out nearly 100 horsepower. It has a 6 speed transmission and a combination Telelever and Paralever suspension system. The setup on the R1100S allows for smooth handling and a strong frame.
The R1100S was the first motorcycle produced by BMW to come with rear footrests for passengers, clip-on handlebars, and a pillion seat cowl that is removable. It appears very sportslike but is as comfortable as a touring version. The front fender on the R1100S is made of carbon fiber. It also has heated grips to keep your hands warm on the colder days.
There were also a few different BMW R1100S special edition models made during the years that it was in production. The Sport model came with a slightly different suspension system making it more stiff, a taller monoshock in the rear, a wider rear wheel and tire setup. The BoxerCup Replica model of the R1100S comes with twin under seat exhausts, an Ohlins suspension system, a shorter torque arm, and carbon fiber upgrades to the frame.
