Mitsubishi enjoys a long history as a Japanese auto company. Their automobiles are driven in countries around the world. The Mitsubishi service manual is the perfect companion to any Mitsubishi vehicle owner.

Mitsubishi was established in 1870 by Iwasaki Yataro. It was originally a group of 4 different companies with different interests. The company ran seamlessly until 1947.During World War II, the company was dismantled following the occupation of Japan. The four companies continued to use the Mitsubishi name, although they were all separate entities.

During World War II, Mitsubishi began to manufacture airplanes and jets for the Japanese Imperial Navy pilots. This included the kamikaze jets that became a trademark of the Japanese pilots. The Japanese would also use forced labor and POW’s to aid in the building of the planes and jets.

This group of 4 would continue to meet informally in what would become known as the “Friday Conference” These four companies were MUFG Bank, Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

By 1952, the Korean War would bring about the need to grow Japanese industries and Mitsubishi would begin to grow once again. Mitsubishi would look to expand in other industries.

Between 1950 and 1960, Mitsubishi would contribute greatly to Japanese economic growth. The different industries that Mitsubishi was involved with would start to make great advances in technology, aviation, fuel, communications, and semiconductors. They would also start to develop into other industries such as shipbuilding, steel, banking, glass, and oil.

Eventually, the Mitsubishi group would be made up of 40 different companies. It was set up so that each of these Mitsubishi companies would own a share of the others. Of these 40 companies, 29 companies participate in the “Friday Conference” that had been started years earlier. The Friday Conference is held on the second Friday of the month and involves senior executives meeting together.

However, by 1990 this practice of the Friday Conference was viewed unfavorably and as a violation of antitrust laws. So, since 1993, the Friday Conference became more of an informal social event. Although, cooperation between the individual companies was still discussed.

Today Mitsubishi continues to be a strong contender in the worldwide automotive market. They continue to debut new models and remain competitive with other brands. Many people enjoy owning Mitsubishi vehicles and enjoy taking care of them by themselves. A handy guide for the DIY Mitsubishi owner is the Mitsubishi repair manual.
