Sales of the second generations Diamante began in the United States in October of 1996. The Diamante was not quite considered a luxury car, but it competed well with some luxury cars based on price. The US version would also feature a keyless entry.
In 2002 Mitsubishi introduced the VR-X, which was a sport version of the Diamante. The American version was known for its unique 270-watt, 8 speaker sound system. This model also sported a 3.5L V6 engine.
Over time the Mitsubishi Diamante has undergone changes and upgrades. It has however always been a strong contender as an affordable luxury car.
