CB500F
The Honda 500 twins were a series of straight-twin motorcycles manufactured by Honda since 2013. They are the CB500X adventure touring bike and the CBR500R sportbike. Their release happened to coincide with the introduction of new European licensing regulations, which helped establish a new class of mid-range motorcycles of limited power. The new 500 twins are akin to the earlier CB500 parallel-twins discontinued in 2003. To help keep the engine in top shape, make sure you have a handy Honda CB500F owner’s manual.
All three models used the same 180° crank twin-cylinder, parallel, transversely mounted 471 cc engine whose cubic capacity and power output were below the European driving license A2 limits. All models also shared the same 6-speed gearbox and a significant amount of cycle parts. The CB500X also had a bigger fuel tank and longer front suspension, making it slightly taller.
Since 2014, Honda has partnered with local organizers to promote and nurture national CBR500R Cup events in France and Brazil; raced over various circuits, the competitions are open to amateurs from 13-years and up. And if you ever find yourself having to work on one of these motorcycles, having a Honda CB500F workshop manual can make the job go more smoothly.
