The first Ducati ST4 was introduced to the motorcycle market in 1999. It had a four stroke, 90 degree L design, twin cylinder engine. It also featured a DOHC design with 4 valves per cylinder. The clutch was a dry cable operated setup with multiple discs. The six speed transmission along with the advanced engine set the Ducati ST4 up for serious power. The engine is smooth enough for all day cruising as well.
Style of the ST4 was not much different from the other sports touring motorcycles offered by Ducati, but some changes did have to be made to accommodate the larger engine. The tires were also larger to provide more road grip and support the larger frame. A larger fuel tank also provides a comparable 200 mile range rank. The fairing also provides some coverage from the weather.
Modern conveniences have also been incorporated to make the ST4 more rider friendly. The dash was updated to include an LCD screen to show the clock, fuel gage, and other important gage readings. There is an optional hard luggage add on you can purchase for longer trips. A larger seat allows the rider to relax a little more while driving. Hours on a motorcycle with an uncomfortable seat is no fun, but the ST4 provides a large enough for rider to adjust positioning if necessary.
