The first BMW R1150GS was produced in 1999. Production was finished in 2004 but the motorcycles are still very popular on the roads today. Not only are they popular on the roads though, they handle just as well on off road trails. This adventure type motorcycle was built for speed, comfort, and agility.

The engine of the R1150GS was expertly designed. It is a 1,130 cc flat twin engine with shaft drive. The flat twin, air and oil cooled engine puts out an impressive 85 horsepower to keep the rider going strong no matter the circumstances. It has a 6 speed transmission. The 75 pound-feet of torque maxes around 5,250 RPMs.

Late in the year 2002, there were a few changes made to the R1150GS. The optional anti-lock braking system was swapped with a new combined braking system that was electrically assisted. There were also twin spark plugs added on each cylinder. These new designs were put into place to help improve the motorcycles emissions rating.

Over the years there has been a total of over 58,000 BMW R1150GS’s made. This impressive motorcycle has been the recipient of several different awards including the Best Sport Touring Bike in 2000 and the Best Traillie in 2005.
