Do not touch hot parts of the exhaust system. Remove drain plug (1) with sealing ring (2) and drain the engine oil. Remove old sealing ring (2) from drain plug (1). Removing threaded plug, sump plate Remove threaded plug (1) with long 5 mm Allen key. Removing oil filter Push shift lever (1) down. Remove oil filter (2), using oil filter wrench (No. 11 4 661). Tightening torques Oil filter to engine Coat seal with engine oil 11 Nm Check that oxygen sensor cable (1) is correctly routed behind oil filter (2) and in engine block (3); correct the routing if necessary. Installing drain plug for oil pan Install drain plug (1) with new sealing ring neuem Dichtring (2). Tightening torques Oil drain plug to oil pan M16 x 1.5 28 Nm Pouring in engine oil Prepare the correct total quantity of engine oil. Technical data Engine oil, capacity with filter change 4.5 l Fluids and lubricants products recommended by BMW Motorrad and generally admissible viscosity classes Fill the oil tank to the MAX mark. Start the engine and allow it to run. Pour the rest of the oil into the oil tank. Close the oil tank. Checking engine oil level Position the motorcycle upright and allow the engine to idle until the fan starts up, then allow the engine to continue idling for one minute. Switch off the engine and wait for about one minute to allow the oil to drain into the sump. Remove oil dipstick (1) and clean the dipstick.
