F800GT
Since 2013, the BMW F800GT was a sport touring motorcycle produced by BMW Motorrad. Its predecessor was the F800ST and joined the F-series range which includes the dual-sport F800GS and F700GS, and the naked F800R. Depending on whether you’re a performance junkie or just fixing your BMW F800GT up for other reasons, make sure you have a BMW F800GT workshop manual in your arsenal to combat any issues that may rear their ugly head at you.
The F800GT used a 798 cc parallel-twin engine, co-engineered by Rotax and BMW. The driver had a 360° firing order which created an exhaust note similar to that of BMW's signature air-cooled boxer twins. A dry-sump system is what keeps the engine lubricated. The engine produced 89 hp at 8,000 pm, but could be specified with a reduced power output of either 47 hp for European riders on restricted Category A2 licenses, or 34 hp.
The F800GT had a single-sided swingarm and low-maintenance belt drive. ABS brakes were standard. In the UK and the US, factory options included tire pressure monitoring system, heated grips, onboard computer, anti-theft alarm system, LED indicators, Automatic Stability Control (ASC), main center stand, comfort seat, pannier fastenings, low seat, and Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA). BMW Motorrad also offered a range of accessories.
Compared to its predecessor, the F800GT came available with many new features, including: power increase of 5 hp; redesigned full fairing with improved weather and wind protection; introduction of optional Automatic Stability Control (ASC) and Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA); handwheel adjustment of rear suspension preload; a 2.0 in longer rear swingarm; lighter cast aluminium wheels; vibration-free handlebars with new generation controls and switches; updated instrument dials and gauges; smoke grey turn indicators; increased load capacity; modern paint finishes; new exhaust system; and a newly developed luggage system. If you are one of the lucky ones who get to work on a F800GT, whether you’re showing it some TLC or tuning it for performance reasons, make sure you got your trusty BMW F800GT service manual with you.
