F650GS

Manufactured from 2000 to 2007, the BMW F650GS was a dual-purpose motorcycle. It was available in a taller more off-road-oriented 'Dakar' model and a lowered model with lower seat height from a shorter rear shock. The Dakar model had a narrower 21-inch front wheel and longer suspension for improved off-road handling. It was named after the Paris Dakar Rally, which, in 1999 and 2000, BMW rider Richard Sainct won on the F650RR. Moreover, the F650GS isn't a problematic motorcycle to work on, but ensuring you have a BMW f650gs repair manual will make sure that you don't encounter any hiccups along the way.

The 'Dakar' specifications classed it in 650 cc dual-sport class, competing against bikes like the Kawasaki KLR650, Honda XR650L, Suzuki DR650, Yamaha XT660, KTM LC4 640, and Honda Transalp. A custom rally raid version of the bike was used by Charley Boorman and his team while filming their documentary Race to Dakar.

The G650X series was introduced as 2007 model years, consisting of the scrambler-style X-Country, the off-road X-Challenge, and the road-oriented X-Moto. This series was discontinued after the 2009 model year. Amongst the multiple changes from the initial F650, the engine was updated to a 43 mm throttle body. The fuel is stored in an under-seat fuel tank, and the false tank housed the remote oil reservoir, battery, and airbox. This contributed to improved handling due to a lower center of gravity.

The single-cylinder F650GS was discontinued in 2008, and replaced by a brand new design with a 798 cc, parallel-twin engine. BMW planned for it to be a new-generation replacement for the old bikes. In 2008, BMW reintroduced the original single-cylinder F650GS under the name G650GS in the United States, Greece, South America, and Australia.

In 2012, BMW released the G650GS Sertão, which was a more off-road capable version. The Sertão filled the product gap that was left when the F650GS Dakar was discontinued in 2008.

Although the C650GS is no longer in production, doesn’t mean you cannot still spot them here and there. If you ever find yourself working on one of these motorcycles, having a BMW F650GS service manual ensures the job will go more smoothly.
