Service Information Document Title: Function Group: Information Type: Date: Description, general 000 Service Information 2014/7/15 Profile: ART, T450D [GB] Description, general Engine The machine is equipped with a straight 6-cylinder, 4-stroke diesel engine. The engine is a direct-injected, turbocharged low-emission engine with intercooler. Electrical system The machine has four control units (ECU). I-ECU (for the instruments) is integrated with the information display unit, warning lights, and instruments, and gives the operator information via these. V-ECU (for the machine) receives signals from sensors on the machine that are sent to the I-ECU. T-ECU controls the transmission. E-ECU controls the engine. Power transmission The planetary geartransmission is fully automatic. It has a torque converter with free-wheel stator and automatic direct clutch (lock-up) on all gears except reverse gears. The machine has six forward gears and two reverse gears. A hydraulic retarder is integrated in the transmission. The dropbox with high/low range has a differential which eliminates stresses between the driven axles, which reduces tire and road wear as well as fuel consumption. The longitudinal differential is provided with a lock function. Together with the transmission, six gears forward in low range and six gears forward in high range are available. In reverse, two gears in low range and two gears in high range are available. In low range, the dropbox automatically shifts to high range (6H) after 6 L The drive axles are equipped with a differential planetary gear hub reductions. All drive axles have differential lock. Brakes The retarder, integrated in the transmission, is a fully hydraulic brake acting on the transmission's turbine shaft. The retarder has a maximal braking performance of 250 kW (340 hp). Service brake The machine is equipped with 2–circuit, fully hydraulically controlled wet brakes, with a brake circuit for the tractor unit and one for the load unit. The brake units consist of fully sealed, oil-cooled disc brakes with external cooling. Attachment brake The machine is provided with a connection for attachment brake. Make sure that the attachments can handle the pressure of 0-138 bar (0-2000 PSI) Parking brake The parking brake is of the spring brake type, acting on the propeller shaft. As the differential lock in the dropbox is engaged at the same time as the parking brake, the latter acts on the axles. The spring brake has a separate compressed air circuit for releasing the brake. Steering system The steering system is self-compensating, hydromechanical with secondary steering function. A ground- dependent pump on the dropbox means that the steering works even if the engine stops. Cab The cab has heating and ventilation unit with defroster system for the windows. Air conditioning is available as an option. The cab has two emergency exits, the door and the right rear side window (secondary exit). FOPS and ROPS The cab is approved as a protective cab according to FOPS and ROPS standards.

Service Information Document Title: Function Group: Information Type: Date: Coolant with freezing and corrosion protection 030 Service Information 2014/7/15 Profile: ART, T450D [GB] Coolant with freezing and corrosion protection Anti-freeze Check the anti-freeze every 500 hours. At delivery, the cooling system is filled with a mixture of 50% water and 50% Volvo Construction Equipment concentrated coolant with freezing protection down to -25°C. If there's a risk that the ambient temperature drops below this temperature, the freezing protection should be adjusted, see below. Corrosion protection Volvo Construction Equipment concentrated coolant contains active corrosion protection additives to protect engine and radiator. These additives have a limited service life. Therefore, change the coolant every 3000 hours. NOTE! Volvo Construction Equipment concentrated coolant may not be mixed with other brands of coolant or additives. Mixing could have negative effects. Volume and change volume cooling system; see Engine, capacities. The content of concentrated coolant with anti-freeze protection may not be below 40%. 40% provides protection against freezing down to -25° C. 50% provides protection against freezing down to -37° C.

Volvo Articulated Haulers AB gives only recommendations for retrofitting based on the characteristics and properties of Volvo chassis and that Volvo Articulated Haulers AB can determine prior to retrofitting without knowledge of the specific case involving retrofitting. Therefore, the responsibility for the retrofit and its compliance to issued requirements rests with those performing the retrofitting. This also applies to the responsibility for the entire vehicle’s characteristics and properties to the extent that they are affected by the retrofit. This includes requirements from authorities as well as general suitability and safety requirements. The dealer/retrofitter is responsible to the customer with regards to giving sufficient instructions about functions and care of the retrofitted equipment and modification of chassis. When a complete vehicle is sold, the dealer is responsible to the customer that the retrofitted equipment has been installed according to the requirements and retrofitting instructions from Volvo Articulated Haulers AB. In case of eventual retrofitting work that cannot contain already known requirements or there are any other doubts, contact Volvo Articulated Haulers AB, Special Vehicles department. The stability may be affected following any and all changes to the basic product. For example, this applies when load body sides are heightened. When special equipment is retrofitted, the instructions in the specification section must be followed. This is especially important in order to maintain the center of gravity within the specified range, both vertically and horizontally. All welding should be performed according to ISO 5817, welding class C. NOTE! No modification of the machine’s hydraulic system is allowed without consent from Volvo Articulated Haulers AB, Special Vehicles department.
