Volvo V40 Service Repair Workshop Manuals
The Volvo V40 is a compact family car manufactured by Volvo. It was first introduced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and has been available in Europe since May 2012 and in the United Kingdom since August 2012. If you need to repair your V40, it is recommended to have a Volvo V40 workshop manual.
The design of the V40 was overseen by Peter Horbury, an American designer, with the interior styled by Pontus Fontaeus. This model was the last Volvo developed under Horbury's supervision before he moved to Volvo's parent company, Geely. It was built on the Global C platform, which featured modified electric power steering and revised spring and damper settings.
During its initial launch, the V40 offered two petrol engines: a 1.6-liter EcoBoost I4 engine producing either 150 or 180 horsepower, and a 2.5-liter Volvo B525 I5 engine with 254 horsepower. It also had two diesel engine options: a 1.6-liter PSA Peugeot Citroen/Ford Duratorq engine delivering 115 horsepower and a 2.0-liter I5 Volvo diesel engine available in two versions, with 150 or 177 horsepower. In certain countries, the V40 T5 model utilized a 2.0-liter I5 engine generating 213 horsepower.
From the 2014 model year onwards, Volvo introduced its in-house developed Drive E (VEA) petrol and diesel engines in the V40. These engines replaced the previous 5-cylinder engines. The D4 Drive E engine, a 4-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine, produced 187 horsepower and 295 lb⋅ft of torque. The T5 Drive-E variant came with a 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine delivering 240 horsepower and 258 lb⋅ft of torque.
Following the introduction of the VEA D4 and T5 engines, the 1.6 D2 and 2.0 5-cylinder D3 engines were replaced with VEA 2.0 D2 and D3 engines. Similarly, the 1.6 EcoBoost and 2.0 5-cylinder engines were swapped out with VEA 2.0 T2, T3, and T4 engines. Some automatic petrol models featured a de-stroked version of the VEA 2.0 engine with a 1.5-liter displacement, used for T2 and T3 models. A facelifted version of the V40 was eventually introduced.
From 2012 to 2014, the V40 was available with a range of petrol engines, including a 1.6-liter EcoBoost I4 engine with power outputs of 120, 150, and 180 horsepower, and a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine producing 254 horsepower. The diesel engine options during this period included a 1.6-liter Ford Duratorq engine with 115 horsepower and a 2.0-liter 5-cylinder Volvo engine with either 150 or 177 horsepower.
Currently, Volvo offers two petrol engines for the V40: a 1.5-liter (Volvo VEA) engine with power outputs of 122 and 150 horsepower, and a 2.0-liter (Volvo VEA) engine producing 122, 152, 190, or 245 horsepower. There is also one diesel engine option, a 2.0-liter (Volvo VEA) engine yielding 120, 150, and 190 horsepower. It is important to have a clear understanding of the V40's internal workings before attempting any repairs, so it is advisable to obtain a Volvo V40 repair manual.
