TN-14-92-001 Page 1 of 1 Tech Note: Installing Model S Battery Safety Covers Tech Notes are announcements that help to communicate and track new information about Tesla Service concerns. Such concerns may or may not be VIN specific. These instructions assume knowledge of motor vehicle and high voltage electricity repairs, and should only be executed by trained professionals. Tesla Motors assumes no liability for injury or property damage due to a failure to properly follow these instructions or for repairs attempted by unqualified individuals. Whenever the Model S Battery is stored separate from a vehicle for any length of time, the high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) rapid mate connectors must be covered to prevent ingress of moisture and debris. Use the 1038478-00- A cover (Figure 1) to seal the HV connector and the 1028325-00-A cover (Figure 2) to seal the LV connector. Figure 1 (High voltage cover) Figure 2 (Low voltage cover) Before installing the battery safety covers, verify that the black seals on the rim of each cover and the red seals on the LV cover plugs are in place and undamaged. To install the battery safety covers, press them firmly into the rapid mate connectors to secure the seals (Figure 3). To remove the covers, grip the handles and lift straight up. Figure 3 If the covers are not available, use 3M 2480S Masking Tape (2" wide) or 3M 471 Red Vinyl Tape (2” wide) to seal the rapid mate connectors. If the covers are lost or damaged, order replacements through the WarpSO process. For feedback on the accuracy of this document, email ServiceBulletinFeedback@teslamotors.com.
