The tC spawned two generations, both based on the Toyota Avensis. As a result, it’s a reasonably reliable vehicle, with issues that are generally easy to repair but expensive due to high labor costs.

The Toyota Scion tC is a compact car produced and sold under Toyota's Scion brand from 2004 to 2016. TC stands for ""touring coupe."" But before you work on your tC, double check to see if you have a Scion tC repair manual.

Toyota presented the tC at the January 2004 NAIAS. The Scion tC uses a MacPherson strut front and double wishbone rear suspension and shares its chassis with the Avensis. Standard equipment included power windows, mirror-mounted turn signal lights, keyless entry, cruise control, air conditioning, a 160-watt Pioneer sound system with CD player, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, and a panoramic moonroof.

The base version of the Scion tC known was the Spec Package was offered without many of the standard amenities. The Scion tC Spec Package a steering wheel is made of urethane instead of wrapped leather, it lacked stereo controls, and the glass roof was fixed in place. This model, which was intended to be a blank slate for the tuner market, was offered in:  Flint Mica, Super White, Classic Silver Metallic, and Black Sand Pearl. In 2009, the Spec Package was discontinued.

A 2nd generation was debuted at the April 2010 New York Auto Show. It received a bump in performance, a 2.5 L I4 2AR-FE engine producing 180 hp (130 kW;177 PS) and 174 lb⋅ft (236 N⋅m). Like the first generation, the chassis was a variant of the Toyota Avensis. The second-generation is a toned-down version of the Scion Fuse concept. The grille, headlights, and taillights, all received a makeover to make the car seem more angular and muscular. It continued to receive high safety marks, featuring a roomy interior, an all-glass roof, and hatchback design. Other modifications included a wider track, larger brake discs, faster engine, a performance-tuned electric power steering system, and six-speed transmission. The Scion tC now came with a standard Vehicle Stability Control. Initially, a special FiveAxis body kit was offered for the car; with many aftermarket performance upgrades still being available, the tC remained popular in the tuner market.

Sales of the second generation tC were not as high as Toyota was expecting. In 2013, the launch of the Scion FR-S, the tC received a facelift for the 2014 model year. The 2014 tC received updated headlamps, LED taillights, grille, a sport-tuned suspension, body kit, sport-tuned shocks, reworked faster shifting transmission, and a new touch screen audio system.

For the first model year, Toyota offered a limited edition Series 10 in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the brand. It included a silver seat belts, new silver color, and a solar-powered illuminated shift knob. The 2016 model year tC received some minor changes, new silver interior door handles center console tray cover, such as a standard rear windshield wiper, and a leather-wrapped shift knob.

In 2016, the tC ended production after a final release edition as part of the phasing out of Scion brand. And with that, the Scion tC faded into automotive history.
