Cutlass Ciera

The Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera was one of the Cutlass models that became a separate model after the Cutlass lineup was divided in 1982. The Ciera was still a car designed to provide an efficient level of power, but became popular because of the value it provided for the price. Cutlass Cieras are more than 20 years old, but they can still perform well if you use an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera repair manual to diagnose and fix issues when they arise! Older vehicles especially require extra care, as they’ve seen more wear and tear than newer cars and were designed with less-advanced technology.

The Cutlass Ciera was initially offered with two trim options - the standard, or the upscale Brougham. The standard Ciera was equipped with a 2.5L four-cylinder Iron Duke engine, while the Brougham could choose between that or a 2.8L V6, a 3.8L V6, or a diesel 4.3L V6.

In 1985, the Cutlass Ciera experienced some cosmetic upgrades to the interior and lights on the exterior. The diesel engine was also removed as an option as the brand slowly started to remove features from the model. Until 1988, the Cutlass Ciera saw several special edition models, like the XC, an anniversary celebration model, the GT, a sleek performance variant, and the ES, a sportier feeling Cutlass Ciera.

Up until 1989, the Cutlass Ciera continued to receive improvements. After 1989, the Ciera slowly began to strip away options and features as it prepared to replace the model with another vehicle. The exterior of the body took a new, smaller appearance. The 3.8L V6 engine offered for the Brougham was replaced with a 3.3L V6 engine that was actually more powerful.

In 1992, the Cutlass Ciera was no longer offered as a 2 door option, distancing itself from the previous performance image it once carried. For the next few years, old engines were replaced with newer, more-efficient ones and new transmissions to accompany them. Once the Cutlass Ciera reached 1996, the Cutlass name was dropped and only two different options were available for the Ciera.

Despite removing several features, the most recent Cutlass Cieras were still in demand because of how reliable they were. They didn’t offer anywhere near the power and acceleration of previous generations, but they got good gas mileage and were comfortable to drive. Whether you drive an older or newer version, you can find a Cutlass Ciera service manual that works for the model you drive! Just follow the clearly-detailed instructions within, and you’ll make sure your Cutlass Ciera stays healthy for thousands of miles to come!
