RX-7

As a brand, Mazda is known for its production of smaller driver-oriented cars. Arguably the brands most iconic car, the rotary-powered RX-7 checks both of those boxes. The RX-7 was manufactured from 1978-2002 and enjoyed three generations of production. Being such a popular car for Mazda, over 800,000 models of the RX-7 were manufactured and it was named as Car and Driver’s Ten Best list five times. While these cars aren’t in production anymore, owners and enthusiasts of this historically popular vehicle can refer to a RX-7 repair manual for any repair needs that arise.

The first generation RX-7 was manufactured from 1978-1985 with over 470,000 cars made. It was created to replace the Savanna RX-3 and was extremely popular almost immediately. First generation RX-7s were offered with 3 different engine configurations including; 1.1L, 1.1L turbocharged, and 1.3L engine. The choices for transmissions were plenty including a 3-speed automatic, 4-speed automatic, 4-speed manual, and 5-speed manual. With so many transmission choices, how could automotive enthusiasts not take a liking to the vehicle? Noted for its exceptional handling the first generation RX-7 had both a 50:50 front and rear weight distribution and a curb weight under 1,100 kg which was quite impressive coming from Mazda.

The second generation RX-7 was manufactured from 1985-1992 with over 270,000 cars produced. Due to the popularity of the first generation RX-7 in North America, Mazda chose to design the second generation with that market, especially in mind. This included redesigning both the exterior and interior, and the introduction of a convertible model. Engine configurations for the second generation included either a 1.3L naturally aspirated or a 1.3L turbocharged engine. A 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission were offered to compliment the rotary engine.

The third and final generation RX-7 was made from 1992-2002 with over 68,000 cars manufactured. This model became the first car with a sequential twin-turbocharger system to be exported from Japan. Completely redesigned, the new RX-7 was given a more curved and modern exterior styling. Unlike its predecessors, the third generation RX-7 was given only one option for power, the 1.3L twin-turbocharged rotary engine. The engine would be coupled with the drivers choice of either 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic.

The RX-7 produced by Mazda is recognized as one of the most notable vehicles in the automotive industry. Proud owners and technicians can make use of a Mazda RX-7 workshop manual in order to ensure that these vehicles last a lifetime.
