Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Location
The vehicle identification number (VIN) is a seventeen-digit combination of letters and numbers. The VIN
is stamped on a metal tab riveted to the instrument panel, top upper left of the dash. The VIN number is
also found on the vehicle certification (VC) label.

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI)
The first three vehicle identification number (VIN) positions are the world manufacturer identifier (WMI).
1LN — Lincoln, USA, passenger car
1LJ — Lincoln, USA, incomplete vehicle, Hearse
1L1 — Lincoln, USA, Limousine
Restraint Code
The fourth VIN position is the vehicle restraint system type code.
F — Active safety belts — all positions, driver and front passenger air bags (limousine/hearse)
H — Active safety belts — all positions, driver and front passenger air bags with driver and front
passenger side impact air bags
Vehicle Line and Series Code
6 Model year code
7 Assembly plant code
8 Production sequence number

Positions five through seven indicate vehicle line and series code.
M81 — Executive Series
M82 — Ultimate Series
M84 — Executive Series (long wheelbase)
M85 — Ultimate Series (long wheelbase)
M88 — Executive Series (fleet)
M89 — Executive Protection Series
Engine Code
The eighth VIN position is the engine displacement and number of cylinders code.
W — 4.6L EFI (SOHC), EFI, eight cylinder
Check Digit Code
The ninth VIN position is a computer-generated check digit code (0-9).
Model Year Code

The tenth VIN position is the model year code.
5 — 2005
Assembly Plant Code
The eleventh VIN position is the assembly plant code.
Y — Wixom, Michigan (USA)
Production Sequence Number
The last six VIN positions are the production sequence number. These numbers determine the vehicle
build order and provide warranty information.

The upper portion of the vehicle certification (VC) label contains the manufacturer name, the month and
year of manufacture, the certification statement and the VIN. It also includes gross vehicle weight ratings
(GVWR). The VC label is located on the front left-hand door jamb.

Vehicle Certification (VC) Label Reference
Exterior Paint Code
The first set of paint code letters listed indicate the vehicle primary body color. The second set of letters
listed (if applicable) indicate a two-tone or accent body color. All colors are base coat/clear coat.
Primary Body Color Codes
DV — Light Tundra Metallic
F6 — Ceramic White (tri-coat)
G3 — Pueblo Gold
G4 — Cashmere (tri-coat)
JP — Silver Birch
KR — Norcea Blue
L2 — True Blue Metallic
T7 — Charcoal Beige Metallic
UA — Ebony
WT — Performance White

Interior Trim Code
The interior trim codes are listed below. The first digit indicates the interior fabric. The second digit
indicates the interior color.
9 — Nudo leather with insert
Q — Nudo leather
The interior trim colors are:
F — Light Parchment
S — Shale/Dove
U — Dark Stone
W — Black Ink

Radio Code
The radio type codes are:
K — Premium Electronic AM/FM stereo with cassette, compact disc (CD) player and clock
Axle Code
The axle ratios are:
27 — 3.27 conventional
55 — 3.55 locker

Spring Code
Lincoln Town Car uses a rear air suspension. Only front spring codes are listed.
Base part number — 18B036
Engine Calibration Information
Engine calibration information is located on the VC label lower right corner between the spring code field
and powertrain calibration information. Engine calibration information is limited to a maximum of five
characters per line (two lines maximum). Calibration information more than five characters long will wrap
to the second line of this field.
Powertrain Calibration Information
NOTE: Powertrain calibration information is limited to a maximum of five characters per line on the
Vehicle Certification Label. Because of this, calibration identification consisting of more than five
characters will wrap to the second line on the VC label.
Powertrain calibration information is printed in the lower right corner of the Vehicle Certification Label.
Only the base calibration information is printed. Revision levels will not appear, however, they can be
found in On Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS). For the current model year, Ford
