Antenna Systems - LS 400
DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
The antenna automatically extends when the radio and ignition are turned on and retracts when either is turned
off.

CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems
may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer
systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN
PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting
battery.

Body Ground BI Above left rear wheelwell. See Fig. 2 .
Body Ground BK In right, rear side of trunk. See Fig. 2 .

ON-VEHICLE SERVICE
GLASS PRINTED ANTENNA REPAIR
1. Clean broken wire tips with a grease, wax and silicone remover.
2. Place the masking tape along both sides of the wire to be repaired. See Fig. 3 .
3. Thoroughly mix the repair agent (DuPont paste No. 4817).
4. Use a fine tip brush, apply a small amount to the wire.
5. After a few minutes, remove the masking tape.
6. Allow the repair to stand at least 24 hours.

CIRCUIT TESTS
POWER ANTENNA CIRCUIT
Disconnect the motor antenna connector from the body wire harness and inspect the connector on body wire
harness side. See Fig. 5 and Fig. 6 . If circuit is not as specified, inspect radio or wire harness. If circuit is as
specified, replace power antenna. See POWER ANTENNA under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

COMPONENT TESTS
ANTENNA MOTOR
1. Install antenna nut.
2. Disconnect connector from the motor antenna control relay.
3. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 5 on the
wire harness side connector.
4.
Check that the motor turns (moves upward).
5. Then reverse the polarity, check that the motor turns the opposite way (moves downward). When motor is
normal, lower the antenna to the lower most position. If operation is not as specified, replace the motor.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
NOTE: These tests must be performed quickly (within 3-5 seconds) to prevent the
coil from burning out.

POWER ANTENNA
Removal
1. Remove the antenna nut. See Fig. 7 .
2. Remove the left side cover.
3. Disconnect the motor antenna connector and the antenna cord.
4. Remove the 2 nuts and the power antenna assembly.

Installation
1. Install antenna nut.
2. Connect the power antenna connector and the antenna cord.
