XKR

The Jaguar XKR is the supercharged variation of the grand tourer Jaguar XK model. In 2003, the XKR received a new engine as did the XK8. This upgrade included a 4.2L engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. The XKR’s 4.2L engine was supercharged, which increased the power gap between the two models. The XKR now produced a whopping 400 horsepower, while the XK8 was no joke at 300 itself.

During the first generation that lasted until 2007, the XKR was released in multiple limited edition variants. These included the Silverstone, an homage to Jaguar’s participation in Formula One, the 100, a celebratory model to honor Jaguar’s founder’s 100th year. There was also an XKR Portfolio, which was a convertible, and the 4.2-S, which was an upgraded version of the standard XKR.

The second generation of XKRs rolled out in 2007. The XKR now looked quite different from the previous model, bulking up in bumper appearance and achieving what is known today as an iconic sporty look. In 2009, the engine was swapped out for a 5.0L V8, which could output more than 500 horsepower! Not much changed until 2011, at which point the bumpers bulked up yet again and retained a rounder shape overall. The XKR was also sold in limited editions during this generation, although in much fewer quantity overall.
