INTRODUCTION 3 Service The information contained in this manual will help the driver to use the vehicle properly and to ensure it is kept in good working order. Carefully following the instructions contained herein will help you get the best results and satisfaction from your vehicle. We also recommend you have all the maintenance and checks carried out at our Agencies or at our Authorised Service Centres, as they have skilled staff and suitable equipment. See the “Sales and Service Organisation” manual for the location of the Dealers and Service Centres of the Ferrari Service Network Ferrari’s Technical Service Dept. is at your complete disposal for any information and suggestions. Consulting the Manual This manual refers to vehicles with two types of transmission: • mechanical gearbox • “F1” electronically-controlled gearbox therefore, some information may vary depending on the gearbox installed. To facilitate reading and fast consultation, the topics have been divided into sections and chapters. The important parts requiring particular attention are easily identifiable in the sections and chapters. Extreme caution required: CAUTION Failure to comply with the instructions could cause hazardous situations involving personal and vehicle safety! Important note: Warning aimed at preventing any damage to the vehicle and consequently hazards involving personal safety. INTRODUCTION 4 Abbreviations Some descriptions and terms with particular meanings are to be found in this manual in an abbreviated form: A.C. - AIR CONDITIONING ABS - ANTI BLOCKIER SYSTEM - anti- lock braking system for the wheels during braking ASR- ANTRIEBS SCHLUPF REGELUNG - Anti-skid regulation during acceleration EBD- ELECTRONIC BRAKE-FORCE DISTRIBUTION - Electronically- controlled distributor of braking force ECU- ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT “F1”- FORMULA 1 - Electronically- controlled gearbox, designed with the same technology as used in the racing sector. Updating The high quality of your vehicle is ensured by constant improvements and there may hence be differences between this manual and your vehicle. All specifications and illustrations contained in this manual refer to those resulting as of the printing date. Spare parts We recommend you use original Ferrari spare parts, which can only be obtained from the Ferrari Service Network only. The Ferrari warranty is voided if original Ferrari spare parts are not used for repairs. Warranty booklet Each new vehicle is supplied with a “WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE” booklet. This contains the vehicle’s warranty terms and conditions. The warranty booklet also contains the periodic services to be performed according to the “MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE”. “F1” gearbox The vehicle may be equipped with an electronically-controlled gearbox system, controlled by means of the levers on the steering wheel. Even though the system can be used in “AUTO”, mode it should not be considered an automatic gearbox. Hence, for proper use always follow the instructions given in this manual on page 109. 8 1 GENERAL ALARM SYSTEM The vehicle is equipped with an engine immobiliser system against theft attempts. Three radio controls are provided (1 red “master” and 2 black “slaves”) to activate/deactivate the system. VEHICLE KEYS The vehicle is delivered with two identical keys that can be used for: - locking the doors (central locking system); - starting the vehicle; - deactivating the alarm system; - locking the glove compartment; - deactivating the passenger airbag (where provided). CAUTION The radio control system may sometimes fail to operate due to interferences from nearby radio antennas/transmitters which disturb the transmission frequencies. For the system to resume operation, move the vehicle several tens of metres. Note: Should you lose one or more radio controls, follow the instructions given in the alarm system manual and contact the Ferrari Service Network. Should you lose a key, you can request a duplicate from Ferrari quoting the number shown on the plastic label on the key. 9 1 GENERAL “PIN code” A secret “PIN code” (Personal Identification Number) is assigned to each system. The “PIN code” is confidential, and is given to the owner when the vehicle is delivered. The owner is responsible for safekeeping this code. The “PIN code” can be used to deactivate the immobiliser system with the ignition key, without using the radio control. CAUTION Carefully read the instruction manual provided with the vehicle for proper use of the system. Should you lose the “PIN code”, you shall order a new radio control kit from the Ferrari Service Network (1 master + 2 slaves) together with the card showing the new “PIN code”.
