REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
REMOVAL
CAUTION:
Do not attempt to separate or remove the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS) from the accelerator pedal assembly. The APPS
and the accelerator pedal is replaced as an assembly. If the sensor is removed from the pedal, the electronic calibration may be
destroyed.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s) (Refer to 08 - Electrical/Battery System/Standard Procedure) .
2. Disconnect the wire harness electrical connector at the APPS (1).
3. Remove the accelerator pedal mounting fastener (1).
4. Remove the accelerator pedal assembly from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the accelerator pedal assembly on the pedal sled.
2. Install the accelerator pedal mounting fastener (1) and tighten to the proper (Torque Speciļ¬cations) .
3. Connect the wire harness connector at the APPS (1).
4. Connect the negative battery cable(s) (Refer to 08 - Electrical/Battery System/Standard Procedure) .
5. If necessary, use a Scan Tool to erase any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
17 - Rear Suspension / Description
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The rear suspension system uses air springs or coil springs. The suspension system consists of the following major components:

OPERATION
Jounce Bumpers
Component Index
Foam rubber jounce bumpers are housed in the frame above the rear axle assembly. Jounce bumpers limit the suspension travel at the fully compressed state.
Air Springs or Coil Springs

Air springs (or coil springs) support the vehicle weight.
Shock Absorbers
Component Index
Shock absorbers dampen suspension travel and provide stability and control while driving. The shock absorbers limit the suspension travel at the fully rebounded
state.
Stabilizer Bar

The stabilizer bar is constructed from steel. The bar mounts to the axle housing through two rubber/urethane bushings and two steel mounting brackets. Stabilizer
links are connected at each end. The stabilizer bar minimizes body roll during cornering.
Lower Control Arms

The lower control arms are constructed from steel and use rubber/urethane bushings for isolation and arching motion.
Upper Control Arms

The upper control arms are constructed from steel and use rubber/urethane bushings for isolation and arching motion. The upper control arms feature a height

The stabilizer bar links provide a physical connection between the stabilizer bar and the lower control arm.
Track Bar

A steel track bar is mounted behind the rear axle and is position laterally between the axle housing and the frame. The track bar has rubber/urethane bushings at
each end. The track bar keeps the rear axle centered during cornering.
NOTE:
In any instance where a bolt is through a rubber bushing, the bolt must be torqued with the vehicle at normal ride height.

LOWER CONTROL ARM WITHOUT TRX
REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle (Refer to 04 - Vehicle Quick Reference/Hoisting - Standard Procedure) .
2. Remove the lower control arm front bolt and DISCARD the nut and bolt.
3. Remove the lower control arm rear bolt and DISCARD the nut and bolt.
4. Remove the lower control arm.
INSTALLATION
NOTE:
All rear control arms are stamped with labels indicating the orientation in which the arms should be installed. The word āFRAMEā must
be installed at the frame end facing outward.
NOTE:
In any instance where a bolt is through a rubber bushing, the bolt must be torqued with the vehicle at normal ride height.
1. Position the lower control arm to the frame and to the axle bracket.
2. Install a NEW lower control arm front bolt with a NEW nut but do not tighten at this time.
3. Install a NEW lower control arm rear bolt with a NEW nut but do not tighten at this time.
4. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
5. Tighten the lower control arm front bolt to the proper (Torque Speciļ¬cations) .
6. Tighten the lower control arm rear bolt to the proper (Torque Speciļ¬cations) .

LOWER CONTROL ARM WITH TRX
REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle (Refer to 04 - Vehicle Quick Reference/Hoisting - Standard Procedure) .
2. Remove the lower control arm front bolt and DISCARD the nut and bolt.
3. Remove the lower control arm rear bolt and DISCARD the nut and bolt.
4. Remove the lower control arm.
INSTALLATION
NOTE:
All rear control arms are stamped with labels indicating the orientation in which the arms should be installed. The letter āFā must be
installed at the frame end facing outward.
NOTE:
In any instance where a bolt is through a rubber bushing, the bolt must be torqued with the vehicle at normal ride height.
1. Position the lower control arm to the frame and to the axle bracket.
2. Install a NEW lower control arm front bolt with a NEW nut but do not tighten at this time.
3. Install a NEW lower control arm rear bolt with a NEW nut but do not tighten at this time.
4. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
5. Tighten the lower control arm front bolt to the proper (Torque Speciļ¬cations) .

UPPER CONTROL ARM WITHOUT TRX
REMOVAL
NOTE:
The air suspension system can be disabled and enabled by using the Display Screen Module (DSM) in the vehicle under tire jack mode,
which is the preferred method. If the disable level control routine in the scan tool is used it will only disable the level control (automatic
and manual) for that ignition cycle. The air suspension system can also be enabled by driving the vehicle above 8 km/h (5 mph). The air
suspension should be disabled prior to lifting or performing any work.
1. Disable the air suspension system.
2. Raise and support the vehicle (Refer to 04 - Vehicle Quick Reference/Hoisting - Standard Procedure) .
3. If equipped, disconnect the rear ride height sensor rod from the upper control arm ball stud (Refer to 02 -
Front Suspension/Air Suspension/SENSOR, Height/Rear/Removal and Installation) .
4. Remove the upper control arm front bolt and DISCARD the nut and bolt.
5. Remove the upper control arm rear bolt and DISCARD the nut and bolt.
6. Remove the upper control arm.
INSTALLATION
NOTE:
All rear control arms are stamped with labels indicating the orientation in which the arms should be installed. The word āFRAMEā must
be installed at the frame end facing outward. The upper control arms must be installed with the height sensor ball stud outboard.
NOTE:
In any instance where a bolt is through a rubber bushing, the bolt must be torqued with the vehicle at normal ride height.
1. Position the upper control arm to the frame and to the axle bracket.
2. Install a NEW upper control arm front bolt with a NEW nut but do not tighten at this time.
3. Install a NEW upper control arm rear bolt with a NEW nut but do not tighten at this time.
4. If equipped, connect the rear ride height sensor rod to the upper control arm ball stud (Refer to 02 - Front
Suspension/Air Suspension/SENSOR, Height/Rear/Removal and Installation) .
5. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
6. Enable the air suspension system.
NOTE:
The air suspension system can be disabled and enabled by using the Display Screen

REMOVAL

Front Suspension/Air Suspension/SENSOR, Height/Rear/Removal and Installation) .
3. Remove the upper control arm front bolt and DISCARD the nut and bolt.
4. Remove the upper control arm rear bolt and DISCARD the nut and bolt.
5. Remove the upper control arm.
INSTALLATION

JOUNCE BUMPER
REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle (Refer to 04 - Vehicle Quick Reference/Hoisting/Standard Procedure) .
2. Remove the coil spring (Refer to 17 - Rear Suspension/SPRING(S) /Removal and Installation).
3. If equipped, disengage the hose routing clip.
4. Remove the jounce bumper nuts.
5. Remove the jounce bumper.
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out speciļ¬c procedures that
should be followed during installation.
Install the jounce bumper nuts and tighten to the proper (Torque Speciļ¬cations) .

POWER HOP DAMPER
REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle. (Refer to 04 - Vehicle Quick Reference/Hoisting/Standard Procedure) .
2. Support the rear axle with a suitable holding ļ¬xture.
3. Remove the power hop damper rear bolt and nut.
4. Remove the power hop damper front bolt and nut.
5. Remove the rear suspension power hop damper.
6. Disengage the vent hose routing clip from the bracket.
7. Remove the power hop damper bracket bolts.
8. Remove the power hop damper bracket.
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out speciļ¬c procedures that
should be followed during installation.
In any instance where a bolt is through a rubber bushing, the bolt must be torqued with the vehicle at normal ride height.
Install the power hop damper bracket bolts and tighten to the proper (Torque Speciļ¬cations) .
Position the power hop damper to the power hop damper bracket, then install the power hop damper rear bolt and nut loosely.
Position the power hop damper to the frame, then install the power hop damper front bolt and nut loosely.
Tighten the power hop damper front bolt and the power hop damper rear bolt to the proper (Torque Speciļ¬cations) .
