After removing certain components (e.g. engine and transmission assembly, rear axle, fuel tank, etc.), there is a danger that the vehicle will tilt on a two post lift. When the vehicle is raised on an underbody two post lift, fit safety belt, part no.77 11 172 554 available from the Parts Department. 01C-4 VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS - BODYWORK Two column lift: Safety L90 01C For safety reasons, the straps must always be in per- fect condition; replace them if they are damaged. When fitting the straps, check that the protectors (for the seats and fragile parts of the vehicle) are properly positioned. Thread the straps under the lift arms and loop them back through the vehicle. Do not overtighten the straps.
01C-5 VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS - BODYWORK Trolley jack - Axle stand 01C To mount the vehicle on axle stands, the entire vehicle must be lifted on one side and axle stands must be pla- ced under the jacking points for the tool kit jack (1). IMPORTANT If a trolley jack is used, appropriate axle stands must always be used. WARNING - The subframe of this vehicle is protected by pro- ducts providing a 6-year anti-perforation warranty. - Always use equipment which is fitted with rubber pads, to avoid damage to the protection originally applied. - The vehicle must not be raised by support points under the front suspension arms or under the rear axle. - To raise a front or rear wheel, use the jack at (1). 108416 108418 1 1
01C-6 VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS - BODYWORK Towing L90 01C I -FRONT II - REAR WARNING - Observe the national regulations concerning towing for the country you are in. - Never use the drive shafts as attachment points. - The towing points may only be used for towing on the road. - Never use the towing points for removing the vehi- cle from a ditch or to lift the vehicle, either directly or indirectly. - Screw in and lock the towing ring before towing. Vehicles fitted with an automatic gearbox -The vehicle should preferably be towed using a back-plate or by raising the front wheels. If this is impossible, in exceptional circumstances, the vehi- cle may be towed at a speed below 12 mph (20 km/h) over a maximum distance of 18 miles (30 km) (lever in N position). 108586 108585
