Heed the following so as to avoid possible injury and/or the de‐ struction of electrical and electronic components: ♦ Always switch off ignition before disconnecting and connecting measuring instruments and testers. ♦ Certain tests may lead to a fault being detected by the control unit and stored. The fault memory should therefore be inter‐ rogated and (if necessary) erased after completing all tests and performing any repair work. ♦ Always switch off the ignition before connecting or discon‐ necting the battery, as otherwise electronic control units could be damaged. Conditions: • Vehicle power supply OK • Corresponding system fuses OK ⇒ Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations • Battery earth strap and, if fitted, earth strap between battery and gearbox OK • Battery voltage min. 12.5 V • Vehicles with automatic gearbox: Selector lever set to “P” or “N” and handbrake applied – Check earth connections for corrosion and damage and repair if necessary ⇒ Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
