1.1 Contact Corrosion
Contact corrosion can occur if incorrect fasteners (bolts, nuts,
washers, etc.) are used.
For this reason, only fasteners with a special surface coating are
used.
In addition, rubber or plastic parts and adhesive consist of non-
conductive materials.
If there are doubts as to whether parts are suitable or not, use
new parts ⇒ Parts Catalog .
Note:
♦ We only recommend original replacement parts as they have
been tested and are compatible with aluminum.
♦ We recommend using Audi accessories.
♦ Damage resulting from contact corrosion is not covered by
warranty.

2.1 Preparing for No Load Voltage Meas‐
urement
Procedure
The following preparations must be made before the battery no
load voltage can be measured:
– Open cover -1- over positive terminal grip in
-direction of arrow-.
– Connect the tester to the positive terminal clamp “+” and the
ground terminal clamp “-” ⇒ Electrical Equipment - General

2.2 Battery, Preparing for Charging
Procedure
WARNING
Risk of explosion on discharged battery with visual indicator.
♦ If the visual indicator has no color or is light yellow, the bat‐
tery may not be tested or charged. Jump starting must not
be used! There is a risk of explosion during testing, charging
or jump starting. The battery must be replaced.
Before the battery charger can be connected, the following prep‐
arations are necessary:
Note
It is recommended that the battery is charged when installed and
connected. Only in this way it is guaranteed that the charge cur‐
rent is included in the capacity of the Energy Management Control
Module -J644- .
– Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and re‐
move ignition key.

– Leave driver's door and hood open during charging procedure.
2.3 Battery, Preparing for Support Mode
Procedure
Before the battery charger can be connected, the following prep‐
arations are necessary:
– Turn off the ignition and all electrical consumers.
– Open cover -1- over positive terminal grip in
-direction of arrow-.
– Connect the red charging clamp “+” -item 3- on the battery
charger to the positive terminal clamp and the black charging
