The values shown in the table are to be used as a starting point only. After initial setup, final adjustment of the Barton Openers must be made in the field under actual seeding conditions. NOTE: The chart below is provided to record the actual settings used for future reference. PRODUCT DEPTH/SETTING SETTING USED Product Product Depth Down Pressure Spring Setting Implement Frame Height Cleaner Wheel Setting Press Wheel Setting 1. Level the implement frame - Ensure the implement frame is level from front to back and side to side and that the wings are level with the center section. - See your implements operators manual for instructions. 2. Adjust the scraper blade on the disc - The scraper should be as close to the disc as possible, while still permitting it to rotate easily. 3. Set the initial down spring pressure - Set the initial spring pressure. 4. Set the initial implement frame height - Set the frame height based on the desired product depth.

Adjust the initial cleaner wheel setting and position - Adjust the cleaner wheel setting to correspond to the desired product depth. - Adjust the position of the cleaner wheel so that the bottom of the wheel lightly contacts the disc, but the wheel still rotates freely. 6. Adjust the initial press wheel setting - Adjust the press wheel setting to correspond to the desired product depth. 7. Test the openers in the field - Operate the implement in the field for a short distance (approximately 100 ft./30 m). - Check product depth and field conditions. 8. Perform final adjustments NOTE: After initial setup, final adjustments must be made in the field under actual seeding conditions. Check for the following problems: - Field finish/soil disturbance problems - Product placement problems - Implement skewing - Residue management/hairpinning - Soil penetration/packing problems
