The Land Rover Series was a line of vehicles produced by Land Rover. It was produced as Series I, Series II and Series III. The intention of this vehicle was to be off-road driving. Owners of this iconic Land Rover vehicle would do well to have the Land Rover Series 3 service manual handy when maintaining their vehicle.
It is important to note that the Land Rover Series 3 was built from 1971 to 1985. It is the most popular of all generations in the Series family.
The Series 3 was constructed using the same body and engine as its 2 predecessors, which also included a station wagon version and a 1-ton version.
Beginning with the Series 3, Land Rover started to make some updates to this vehicle. One of the first changes was to move the front headlights. This was done to bring the car in line with American, Dutch and Australian guidelines. The metal grille was also replaced by a plastic grille in the Series 3.
During the 1970s the interior was redesigned as well. The interior saw the instrument panel be moved from the middle to the driver’s side. Land Rover also used plastic when making the dashboard.
Additionally, the Series 3 saw updates to the engines and also the axles. The axles were updated because there had been issues with them breaking under heavier weights. This breakage was commonly seen with commercial Land Rover, as opposed to family vehicles.
The Land Rover Series 3 also debuted several trim options to help make the interior more comfortable for drivers and passengers. Commercial users tended to prefer a more utilitarian vehicle. Upgrading the interior trim and offering more options was a way to showcase the Series 3 as a comfortable family vehicle.
In 1982 the “Country” version was offered. This version of the Series 3 came in 2 different lengths and had cloth seats. There was also the option to add soundproofing and tinted windows. This model also was available in 2 different body lengths.
The Land Rover Series enjoys a rich history in the Land Rover family. It was one of the original off-road vehicles and although it has undergone some updates and redesigns over the years, it still remains true to the original.
People enjoy owning the Land Rover Series 3 SUV. It is a solid and dependable vehicle. If you are fortunate enough to have a Series 3 in your garage, you should add the Land Rover Series 3 workshop manual to your toolbox.
