Hi! Replacing the start/stop button on a 2013 Altima ain't too bad, honestly, and it's pretty much DIY-able. First thing, disconnect the battery — just the negative terminal is fine, we’re just being safe here.
Now the button sits inside the trim panel around the radio and A/C controls. You’ll need to pop that whole trim piece off. Use a plastic trim tool if you got one, but a flathead wrapped in a rag works too. Just work it slow around the edges, it’s all clips holding it in.
Once that’s off, you’ll see the back of the start button. Should be one connector and maybe a couple screws or clips depending on the trim level. Unplug the connector, take out the button, slap the new one in, plug it back in, and pop everything back together.
Reconnect your battery and fire it up. If it still acts weird, you might be looking at a brake pedal switch or one of those smart key system things acting up, but fingers crossed it’s just the button.
If you want a more detailed procedure on this job, I highly recommend you get this 👉🏻 2013 Nissan Altima OEM Service & Repair Manual. It's an OEM manual published by Nissan, and it contains the manufacturer's procedure on how to replace the start/stop button, including step-by-step instructions, clear images, and exploded-view illustrations.
Good luck!
