1. Definitions
A. Revision
The data in the revision column is comprised of two elements:
(1) A Type of Revision Code: ORG = Original, CR = Complete Revision, and PR = Partial Revision. Partial Revisions (PR) are
listed only until the next Complete Revision (CR) is published. Then they are removed.
(2) The Revision Date in YYYYMMDD format. The Revision Date is the date placed on each revised page. It exists to separate
one version of a page from another. Revision Date does not indicate the calendar date when the revision was actually
published and available to the public. However, this is the date that appears in the Current Revision Checklist in the
Customer Service Information File.
B. Publication Date
Publication Date usage has varied over the years. 1937–1996 is unknown. 1997–2013 it generally was synchronized with the
revision date regardless of when the revision was published. In mid 2013 and later, the Publication Date is the calendar date when
the revision was actually published and available to the public. This date does not appear in the Current Revision Checklist in
the Customer Service Information File.

INTRODUCTION
This Illustrated Parts Catalog provides simple, positive identification of replacement parts for the Model PA-34-220T Seneca manufactured by
Piper Aircraft, Inc. of Vero Beach, Florida.
1. The catalog is divided into fourteen major sections as follows:
a. Section I to Xlll inclusive contains all replacement parts for the complete airplane. Each section is subdivided and each division
includes an illustration and a parts listing.
b. Section XIV is the Miscellaneous Group. This group includes an illustration and parts list for the Placards and Exterior Stencils and
a listing of the Piper Service and Optional Equipment Kits, Repair Kits and Special Tools.
2. The following is a brief explanation of the columns in the parts list. (Refer to EXAMPLE below).
a. The FIGURE AND INDEX NUMBER column indicates the illustration figure number and its part number index. EXAMPLE: (2-1),
the 2 is the figure number and the -1 is the index number. Index numbers preceded by a dash (-) indicate the item is not illustrated
in the figure illustration.
b. The PART NUMBER column contains the identifying number of the replacement part and this number must be shown on all parts
orders.
c. Reference information is given in parenthesis in the NOMENCLATURE column under the item nomenclature. Supplemental
information pertaining to parts is listed at the bottom of the NOMENCLATURE column under NOTES.
d. The NOMENCLATURE column indicates the part name. This name must be shown on all parts orders.
e. The NO. REQ. column represents the total quantity of parts per assembly. When the same part appears in two or more figures,
the NO. REQ. column shows the notation REF in all figures except the primary appearance of the part, where the number required
indicates total assembly quantity of the part. For example, placards are listed throughout the manual as REF except in Figures 104,
104A, 104B and 104C, where the quantity of each placard is listed. The symbol AR listed in this column means As Required.
f. The SERIAL NUMBERS AFFECTED column indicates the part application by airplane serial number.
g. Item numbers begin with item 1 for the primary part and then are listed as item 5, 10, 15, 20, until all items are assigned an item
number. Each part is assigned a unique item number.
h. Some item numbers are listed with a letter suffix. These alpha variant items are to identify parts that are used on the left and right
of the aircraft or as grouping of hardware parts that are used in the same location. For example, the left flap is item 135 and the
right flap is item 135A. A bolt, washer and nut used to attach a component to the aircraft may be listed as items 10, 10A and 10B.
i. Metric measurements are given, where applicable, in parenthesis following standard U.S. measurements.
j. When shown in the part number column, the term NONPROC refers to a non-procurable item or group of items. It appears for
reference purposes only. The nomenclature column will contain information to locate procurable parts of the NONPROC item.
EXAMPLE

2 XXXXX-XX * TUBE ASSEMBLY - Baggage door latch X
3 XXXXX-XX * * CLEVIS - Door latch tube assembly X
4 XXXXX-XX * * CLIP - Door latch tube assembly X
In the nomenclature column, the next higher assembly relationship of items covered is shown by the degree of indention of each item
and is indicated by an asterisk (*). One asterisk signifies one indention, two signifies two indentions, etc. The example listing above is
interpreted as follows:
If the DOOR ASSEMBLY (not indented) is ordered, it will include the three items indented under the DOOR ASSEMBLY.
If the TUBE ASSEMBLY (indented one space) is ordered, it will include the two items indented under the TUBE ASSEMBLY.
If you want only a CLEVIS or CLIP, you order only that item.

3. Piper Aircraft, Inc. will supply all attaching parts to its customers in any quantity. When purchasing the attaching parts such as nuts,
bolts, washers, cotter pins, etc. from Piper Aircraft, Inc., the customer or service center need only order the part(s) needed. However,
parts such as rivets or consumables may have requirements in economical measures, such as pounds, gallons, etc.
4. All items of Optional Equipment are contained in the parts list in their proper sequence and sections. These items were not marked
optional, since they are fully identified by their descriptions.
5. The Installation Drawings listed at the beginning of each figure are available for purchase. All other drawings are proprietary and not
for sale. Contact your local Piper Distributor for more information.
ALTERNATE PART NUMBERS
The part number received may differ from the part number ordered. Typical part numbers include a 4, 5, or 6 digit base number followed by
a 1, 2, or 3 digit suffix; i.e., XXXXX-XXX. Leading zeros may not be present. For example, if you order 86957-003, the part you receive may
be marked 86957-3, 86957-03, or 86957-003. Additionally, in some cases, the -XXX part number may be superceded or replaced by a -8XX
part number. Typically, the -XXX part is used in production and the -8XX part is used for service. Actual differences between the parts are
minor, such as fewer holes, primer applied or not, etc. but the parts are otherwise identical and interchangeable.
HOW TO IDENTIFY A PART
IF YOU KNOW WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
AND KNOW WHERE IT IS LOCATED
1. Refer to Figure 1 to determine the section number in which the part is used.
2. Refer to the Table of Contents and locate the section. Note the figure numbers that illustrate the various subgroups of this main
section. Select the figure title you think might contain the part you wish to identify and proceed to the grid (page) specified. If you don’t
find the part on this illustration, try another figure in this group.
3. Refer to Figure and Index Number in the parts listing for description of the part.
HOW TO ORDER PARTS
When ordering parts for your Piper airplanes, please observe the following instructions:
1. Place your order with your local distributor or service center.
2. Specify the model and serial number of your airplane.
3. Specify Part Number, Name, Type and Quantity Required.
4. Specify the method of shipment — freight, express, parcel post, air express, air freight or air parcel post. Where the nature of the
shipment requires it or when no instructions are given, we reserve the right to ship the most suitable way.
5. Request price and delivery information prior to order placement.
GENERAL INFORMATION
1. Shortages
All orders are checked before leaving our Shipping Department. A packing slip is enclosed with the shipment. Claims for errors or
shortages must be made within three days after receipt of orders.
2. Returned Goods
No material should be returned without first securing written permission. Material sent in without notice will be held at the owner’s risk
for thirty days and will then be disposed of as we see fit. Transportation charges must be prepaid on returned goods or the shipment
will be refused.
3. Transportation Liabilities
Piper Aircraft, Inc. cannot be held liable for damages to parts in transit from the factory. If a shipment is received in a damaged
condition, have the delivery man or transportation company make a notation of the damage and file your claim with the carrier. In case
of concealed damage, do not attempt to remove the part from the shipping container, or try to repair the damage, call the carrier and
have their claim agent inspect the damage before filing your claim with the carrier.
