See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery. WARNING: Always relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact engine or electrical components. NOTE: For reassembly reference, label all electrical connectors, vacuum hoses and fuel lines before removal. FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE Disconnect fuel pump connector. Start engine. Allow engine to run until it stalls. Turn ignition off. Reconnect fuel pump connector. ENGINE NOTE: Manufacturer procedure recommends removing engine and transmission as an assembly. Removal & Installation 1) Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove engine compartment covers as necessary to access all engine electrical connectors. Drain engine coolant and remove radiator. 2) Using a piece of sheet metal or a plastic guard, cover A/C condenser. Remove coolant reservoir. Remove left and right boost pressure tubes. Remove air cleaner assembly. Remove accessory drive belt. Remove power steering pump, leaving fluid lines connected. Tie pump to side of engine compartment. 3) Disconnect fuel supply and return lines at rear of engine compartment. Disconnect engine electrical connectors as necessary to facilitate engine removal. Disconnect accelerator pedal cable. Disconnect all necessary vacuum hose connections to facilitate engine removal. 4) Disconnect radiator hoses at cylinder head and water pump. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold. Remove steering shock. Remove rear engine mount. Remove drive shaft. Ensure shift lever is in Park and disconnect shift interlock cable. 5) Disconnect harness connector at transmission. Disconnect transmission shift rods. On manual transmission models, remove clutch slave cylinder. Disconnect front engine mounts at frame. Attach engine hoist to lifting eyes. 6) Raise engine enough to gain access A/C compressor mounting bolts. Disconnect A/C compressor and tie out of way. Remove engine and transmission as an assembly.
