Discovery 1
The Land Rover Discovery 1 was the beginning of a great series of Land Rover cars. If you are the owner of a Discovery I Land Rover or a collector, you should consider adding the Land Rover Discovery I workshop manual to your garage as well.
The Land Rover Discovery 1 series ran from 1989-1998. This was the first generation of the Discovery line. Although the chassis and body train were built on the Land Rover Range Rover, the Discovery was intended to be a more affordable vehicle for people to purchase. This series would be the only one in the Land Rover Discovery family with a 4-cylinder engine.
The company started out by selling the Discovery 1 as a 3-door option. Eventually, Land Rover would add a 5-door option to the line by 1990. Both versions were produced with 5 seats and they had the option to add 2 jump seats in the back as well.
The interior of the Land Rover Discovery 1 series was designed by an outside design group that Land Rover hired. This paid off when the Land Rover Discovery I won the British Design Award.
The interior was mostly constructed of “Sonar Blue” plastic with blue cloth trim. Several upgrades included magazine holders, removable sunroof, and even a center catchall that was made of fabric. This catchall had the Land Rover Discovery 1 logo on it and it was removable from the center console. It even had a strap so that it could be used as a purse.
In 1992, the company began to make the interior in beige as they upgraded other parts. They even began to offer limited edition metallic paint colors as an option. Alloy wheels, front driving lights and roof bars were other additions and upgrades available.
The Land Rover Discovery was first sold in North America in 1994. The company added airbags to comply with North American safety standards. The North American models also had improvements to the engine that made them more efficient.
The Land Rover Discovery 1 was also sold in other countries, including Japan, Switzerland, Australia, France, and the UK. The cars sold in these countries had various differences in the badges on the car.
Many people enjoy owning a Land Rover Discovery 1. If you are fortunate enough to have one, you need the Land Rover Discovery 1 service manual to help you keep it in shape.
