The German automotive brand known as Smart has grown in popularity over the years. While primarily producing microcars and subcompacts, Smart cars have taken over in the automotive industry. Back in 1994, Swatch and Mercedes Benz came together and created Smart. Today, Smart cars are driven all over the world. While these vehicles are small, they still require regular maintenance. The first Smart car model was released in October of 1998 and was only in production for about two years. Since 2000, over ten different models of the Smart car have been released, ranging from a roadster version to electric ones too. Currently, the Smart Forfour, Fortwo, Fortwo Cabrio, and Forfour Electric are all in production an available to the public.

As the automotive industry has focused more and more on electrical vehicles, Smart made a step in the right direction by offering their current and most popular models in both gasoline and electric versions. Environmentally-friendly automotive enthusiasts had a great appreciation for Smart when they debuted their electric vehicles.

Because Smart originates from the Swedish company Swatch and the German auto manufacturer, Mercedes Benz, production of these vehicles is widespread across many countries.

Japan is one of the main countries that encourage their drivers to invest in a Smart car, so much so, that they even offer lower taxes for people who drive them. Indonesia has had the Smart Fortwo available since late 2010. And, Indonesia is the first country in Southeast Asia to have the Smart Electrical Versions. The Beijing Auto Show in 2008 debuted Smart which has led to an increase in sales in China.

In North America, Smart is very popular. Originally debuting in Canada only, Smart has now stretched to the US too. Since 2008, the US has seen sales in Smart cars increase tremendously. South American countries have also found Smart cars to be very popular. Brazil and Argentina are among the most notable countries to have and utilize Smart cars.

Throughout the 25 years that Smart car has been around; they have made great headway in the automotive industry. While they are small, compact vehicles, they get the job done. Now that there are both electric and gasoline options, more and more people are opting for these micro automobiles to get them from one place to another. Smart service manuals can keep these cars in great shape so that they continue to stay on the road, for years to come.
