For the 2002 Ford F-150 with the 4.2L Essex V6, the serpentine belt runs all the main front-end accessories. On that engine, the belt powers:
- Alternator (generator pulley)
- Water pump
- Power steering pump
- A/C compressor
- Crankshaft pulley (drive source)
- Belt idlers and tensioner to keep proper routing and tension
So basically, that one belt runs your charging system, cooling system, steering assist, and A/C.
