If your CR-V key won’t unlock the door because the key fob has no power, you do still have a way in: the emergency key hidden inside the key fob.
How to get the emergency key:
- Find the little release on your key fob — usually a small slide or button on the side.
- Push/slide it and pull out the metal key blade — that metal bit is your emergency key.
- Once you’ve pulled the emergency key out, you can manually unlock the driver’s door using the physical lock cylinder.
That’s all there is to it — no special tools needed.
On newer Hondas the door lock is hidden by a little cap — if there’s a cap on the handle, pop that off gently and you’ll see the key slot underneath. Once you’re inside, you can open the hood, jump the battery, or swap in a fresh battery for your key fob. Once the fob has power again, the remote buttons will work.
Wish you the best of luck!
