Mercedes in that era (including the ML500 W163 and early W164) uses ATF, specifically:
- MB Spec: MB 236.3 or MB 236.14
- Common equivalent: Dexron III / Dexron VI ATF (high-quality brand)
So it's best to use Dexron III (or Dexron VI) ATF — these are MB-approved power steering fluids.
