The OBD port on the 2014 F-150 (3.5 EcoBoost) uses the standard Ford pinout, and the wire colors are pretty consistent. You’re mainly dealing with power, ground, and the CAN bus pair.
Here’s what you’re looking for at the back of the OBD connector:
- Pin 16 — Constant 12V power Color is usually Yellow/Green or Red/White (depends on trim). This one should have battery voltage all the time.
- Pins 4 & 5 — Ground Usually Black or Black/White. One is chassis ground, one is signal ground — both should read continuity to ground.
- Pin 6 — CAN High (HS-CAN +) White/Blue wire.
- Pin 14 — CAN Low (HS-CAN -) White/Green wire.
The White/Blue + White/Green pair will be twisted together — that’s your good visual clue you’ve found the CAN wires.
If you’re not getting power at Pin 16, check the OBD port fuse (usually in the cab fuse panel, labeled something like “Diag / DLC / Cigar lighter” depending on year — Ford loves to share circuits).
In any case, it's never a good idea to go blind when you're dealing with wiring stuff, though. So, unless you really know what you're doing, it's always a good idea to check the repair manual to be sure. This 👉🏻 2011-2014 Ford F-150 OEM Service & Repair Manual should cover details like pinout and colors of the wires, including DTC codes and complete repair procedures.
Wish you the best of luck!
