Hmm.. probably not, at least not if it’s burning a lot of oil.
On the Hyundai Tucson (especially the 2.4L and some of the 2.0L engines), the usual cause of oil burning is stuck piston rings or worn oil control rings. The combustion chamber cleaning sprays and “top-end cleaners” mainly help with carbon on the valves — they don’t really get down to the oil rings deep in the piston grooves where the real problem is.
Now, if it’s only using a little oil, like you’re topping up every few weeks, then sometimes running a ring soak (like Seafoam, GM Top Engine Cleaner, or BG EPR) and switching to a high-detergent full synthetic can free up the oil control rings enough to reduce the burn. Not fix it, just calm it down a bit.
But if you’re losing a quart every few hundred miles, that’s usually:
- worn rings
- scored cylinder walls
- or a PCV system pulling oil vapor heavy into the intake
You can check the PCV valve first — cheap and easy, sometimes a clogged PCV makes it look way worse than it is. Generally:
- If the rings are worn/stuck and the cylinder walls are okay → engine needs to come apart and get new rings.
- If the walls are scored → you’re into rebuild or replacement territory.
So, cleaning spray is kind of like throwing mouthwash at a toothache — won’t hurt anything, but it’s not fixing the root cause.
Of course, this is something you'd want to consult the repair manual, as it will help you with a full diagnosis and solving the problem. Perhaps if you could tell us your Tucson's model year and engine, we'll be happy to assist you further.
