The 1997 GMC Sierra 5.7L V8 (the small-block Chevy engine) has a firing order of 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.
The cylinders are numbered like this:
- Driver’s side (front to back): 1-3-5-7
- Passenger side (front to back): 2-4-6-8
And the distributor rotates clockwise. The #1 cylinder is at the front on the driver’s side, and on the distributor cap, #1 is usually marked or positioned roughly at the 5 o’clock spot when you’re facing it from the front of the truck.
