Nope, you don’t have to strip the whole side of the boat, but you will need to pull a few panels to get proper access.
On a 2006 Ski Nautique, the shift control assembly is mounted to the side panel near the driver’s seat. Usually, you’ll:
- Remove the throttle knob — it unscrews (some have a small set screw ).
- Pop off the decorative bezel or trim plate around the control.
- Take out the mounting screws/bolts that hold the control box to the side panel.
- Once it’s loose, you can pull the unit back a bit to disconnect the shift and throttle cables from the levers inside.
You might have to loosen or remove one side panel section to reach behind the control box, but you don’t need to tear the whole interior apart. Just enough to get your hand in to unclip the cables and electrical connections (if it has trim or safety switch wiring).
In any case, removing the shift control is a job the manual can help you with. Perhaps if you could reach out to us with more details on your Nautique, we'll be happy to assist you further.
