Yeah, the 2019 Silverado can definitely be a little confusing because it does have two pumps, but they don’t both sit in the tank like some older setups.
Here’s how it works:
- There’s a low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank — that’s the one most people mean when they say “fuel pump.” It sends fuel forward to the engine.
- Then, if you’ve got a gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine, there’s also a high-pressure pump mounted on the engine itself, usually driven by the camshaft. That one pressurizes the fuel for the injectors.
If your truck cranks but doesn’t start, the in-tank (low-pressure) pump is the one to check first. Turn the key to “ON” (don’t crank) and listen at the gas cap — you should hear a short humming sound for a couple seconds. No sound usually means that pump isn’t running.
It could be a bad pump, relay, fuse, or wiring — anything, really. But while troubleshooting an issue online is always hard, that's where the service manual actually comes in handy. If you want, you could reach out to us with more details about the engine you're working with, and we'll be happy to assist you further.
