If you’ve got a Polo 1.2 petrol, just run 5W-40 or 5W-30 full synthetic — both work fine. Main thing is, make sure it meets VW 502 00 spec (you’ll see it on the bottle). That’s what VW calls for in most of these engines.
Now, if it’s the 1.2 TSI, especially the newer ones, you might need something that meets VW 504 00 — long-life stuff, especially if you’re not doing oil changes that often.
