If you’re doing brakes on your Honda CR-V and talking about the slide pins (aka guide pins), here’s the deal:
On both the front and rear calipers, the slide pins aren’t always identical. Honda usually uses one with a rubber bushing (accordion-looking sleeve) on the tip — and the other without it.
Here’s how to install them correctly:
Front:
- Pin A (with rubber sleeve) goes in the bottom hole
- Pin B (no sleeve) goes in the top hole
Rear:
- Same setup — rubber-sleeved pin on the bottom, plain pin on the top
The reason is that rubber bushing is designed to control vibration and help the caliper retract evenly. If you install them backwards, you might get uneven pad wear or a slight dragging issue.
Before reinstalling, remember to clean both pins and lightly grease them with high-temp brake grease (especially the grooves and rubber area — but don’t overdo it). Also, make sure the rubber boot seals properly around each pin.
To avoid unnecessary mistakes, you're best off grabbing the service manual for the torque specifications and more info on the caliper bolt. Feel free to reach out to us with more details on your CR-V (e.g. model year, generation, etc.) so we can help point you in the right direction.
